Addiction

I’m experienced in helping addicts of all ages overcome their dependencies — whether the cause is alcohol, smoking, drugs, or eating disorders. Also we can address the so-called socially acceptable addictions of gambling, exercise and sex in their extreme or compulsive forms.

Addiction is not a solitary affliction. Intimate relationships and co-dependencies are frequently enmeshed with this malady. To examine the client’s relationships for evidence of co-dependency, I may consult with the family group to work on these challenges.
My approach is to guide the client to pinpoint the source of their cravings while they become more conscious that the cravings pass. Building their confidence in this regard will be paramount.

We will establish new goals and new passions to replace the deleterious urges. I also guide my clients to develop regimes of regular exercise, meditation and breathing techniques.

I may suggest the client become active in one or more Twelve-Step programs, if that seems advisable.

While I am not a prescribing physician, we will carefully keep track of the client’s prescribed medications and their use of them.

I employ a non-judgemental approach and utilize trauma-informed therapies (Sand Tray, Family Constellations, Gestalt, parts work, CBT & others) to create a nurturing, boundaries, and intentionally collaborative relationship with you. Because of this, you can honor, express, and explore challenges – and the grief that accompanies them – in ways that work best for you.
